Long Run, Short Catch Unearths the Underworld of Illegal Immigration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Long Run, Short Catch Unearths the Underworld of Illegal Immigration
Philadelphia, PA—January 3, 2011—What happens when an escapee from her priest-turned-alcoholic father wakes up one day and finds out that her new groom is a fugitive and her father-in-law is Philadelphia’s most wanted?

The answer lies with Asama Iwuoha in her memoir, Long Run, Short Catch: One Woman’s Desperate Attempt to Discover If Normalcy Actually Exists on Earth, ($14.95, 210pp., tpb) as the Maryland native teaches the true importance of the saying, “Look before you leap.”

Long Run, Short Catch shines a light on the controversial issue of illegal immigration in the U.S. from an unprecedented point of view, provides insight into the Nigerian and Jamaican cultures, and brings awareness to the long-run psychological effects of bad parenting and child abuse. It also shows how stalkers take advantage of Mapquest, and how Facebook can lead to the demise of a marriage.
Asama Iwuoha, a Nigerian-American author, received her B.A. in Broadcasting from Temple University. She is currently working on establishing a non-profit organization for at-risk youth.

Jos Records Bloody Muslim Festival As 12 Die In Violence

It was indeed another bloody day for residents of Jos, Plateau State, at the eid-el maulud celebration Tuesday as 12 persons, including a riot policeman around whom the killings revolved, lost their lives in cruel and untoward circumstances in the Terminus area of the city.

Panic, tension and stampede, all enveloped the city centre, as cars collided headlong, smashing windshields and rending bumpers asunder in desperate moves by motorists to escape from being caught in the madness that began at the Abuja Market in the area.

It all began when the policeman, who was on duty but went to purchase meat from an Hausa butcher in the market, was allegedly slaughtered by the butcher.
The meat seller reportedly turned his knife and killed the unsuspecting policeman, who was simply identified as Mr. John, by tearing open his abdomen.

As if well planned, another butcher beside them, also an Hausa, went after his own customer, a young lady, standing before him, and also killed her with his knife. And before long, the entire market turned into a pandemonium as the people used knives freely on each other.

And before the arrival of soldiers, five people were already dead, while several others were seriously injured.
This provoked angry Christian youths to pounce on a commercial motorcycle operator, believed to be an Hausa, in the terminus area, who was also killed before he could escape.

While Muslim youths, who were reciting the Quaran at the Central Mosque that had earlier been restrained from their usual yearly procession, got wind of the crisis, they immediately made to launch further offensive on the Christians, who were equally battle ready.

But for the prompt arrival of the Commander of the Military Special Task Force, Brig. Gen. Hassan Umaru, who was also observing prayers at the mosque, more casualties would have been recorded. He quickly deployed troops in the area to contain the youths.

The crisis quickly escalated to Gada-Biu area of the city where four other persons were burnt beyond recognition. Three corpses were also found lying near Bingham University Teaching Hospital.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Abdulrahman Akano, said four people had been arrested in connection with the pandemonium. He however denied that any other person was killed apart from the policeman, whom he said is of the Bomb Disposal unit.

Man Caught His Pregnant Wife Cheating On Him

A shocked husband, Luke Bello, has caught his wife Bisi, 35, and her lover Ahmed Tijani, 25, having sex in his apartment.
Luke alleged that he caught his wife who is four months pregnant for him with her lover, Ahmed, on his matrimonial bed making love.

Luke who could not control his anger raised alarm and rushed to the Igando police station and reported that Ahmed raped his wife in his house.
The police went and arrested Ahmed and Bisi followed them to the station on the allegation.
At the station, Bisi told the police that she was not raped as claimed by her husband rather she invited the man to make love to her and she enjoyed the sex while it lasted before the husband suddenly returned home and started raising alarm.

The incident happened at 15,Imesan compound Egan, on the outskirt of Lagos State, South West, Nigeria.
Bisi and her heartthrob , Ahmed were charged to court for conduct likely to  breach the peace under section 451 of the criminal code cap 17 vol 2 laws of Lagos state of Nigeria.
Part of the charge reads:”that you Bisi Bello and Ahmed Tijani on the same date, time and place did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by having sex in the room of Luke Bello husband of Bisi Bello”

When the charge was read to them, they pleaded guilty and explained that both agreed to have sex.
Bisi further explained before the presiding magistrate Mrs. M B.Folami that she invited Ahmed after her husband told her that he was travelling but suddenly returned home unannounced when he caught them.
She also told the court that she was four months pregnant for her husband before the incident happened.
In the course of her explanation, the husband told the court that since she was pregnant he wanted to withdraw.

Scientifically Proven Ways to Be Happier - By Kimberly Weisul

I saw this Inspiring article by By Kimberly Weisul, I just have to share it with my readers.

How can you be happier? Jennifer L. Aaker, a marketing professor at Stanford University’s School of Business, Melanie Rudd, a Stanford MBA student, and Wharton marketing professor Cassie Mogilner, are here to help. Noting that inquiries into money and happiness have found surprisingly few correlations between the two, the trio instead set out to look at the way people spend their time and how that affects happiness. The researchers examined 60 academic studies, then tried to draw links between those findings to draw more general conclusions.
The results? Here are five guidelines they say anyone can use to increase their happiness.

1. Spend time with the “right people.”  Sounds simple. But who exactly are the right people? Unfortunately, they’re generally not your office mates, who are the ones people tend to spend the most time with. The people that make you happiest will generally be friends, family, and romantic partners. That’s why one the most powerful influencers of general happiness is whether or not someone has a “best friend” at work and whether or not they like their boss.
  • Avoid small talk. A related predictor of happiness is how much substantive discussion a person engages in, compared to small talk. Generally, small talk makes people unhappy, and often, work relationships involve a disproportionate amount of small talk. If you want to increase your happiness, it’s far better to find one or two colleagues with whom you can have a real discussion than to engage in small talk around the water cooler.
2. Spend time on “socially connecting” activities, such as volunteering and spending time with friends.
  • Work doesn’t count. Unless your job is particularly fulfilling and your colleagues are your best buds, work is not ’socially connecting’ and is generally one of the more unhappy parts of the day. Commuting is also gets high marks for making people unhappy.
  • Volunteering has been proven to be a good way to increase happiness.
  • Memory is important, because it helps us take an event that happened in the past and extend its ‘worth’ into the future.  One way to help choose experiences that will increase happiness is to consider how you might remember them in the future. What are your happiest memories? How might you create more similar memories?
3. Day dream, or, as the researchers say, enjoy the experience without spending the time. As counterintuitive as it may seem, research has shown that the part of the brain responsible for feeling pleasure can be activated just by thinking about something pleasurable. And we often enjoy the anticipation of something pleasurable more than the actual experience that we think is going to be so great. The most common example is vacation planning, which some find more pleasurable than the vacation itself.
4. Expand your time. No, this does not mean you have to find a warp in the space-time continuum (although it might help). Focusing on the “here and now” slows down the perceived passage of time, allowing people to feel less rushed and hurried. How can we do that?
  • Breathe slowly. Just for a few minutes.  As the authors write: “In one study, subjects who were instructed to take long and slow breaths (vs. short and quick ones) for 5 minutes not only felt there was more time available to get things done, but also perceived their day to be longer.”
  • Volunteering makes it seem like you have more time. In general, spending time on someone else makes people feel like they have more spare time and that their future is more expansive.
  • Pay people to do the chores you hate. Activities that we choose to do generally make us happier than those that are obligatory. So if you can afford it, hire someone else to do some of the ‘obligatory’ tasks, such as cleaning the house. Then use the time you’ve ‘bought’ not to catch up on work, but to do something you genuinely enjoy.
5. Be aware that aging changes the way people experience happiness. Youths tend to equate happiness with excitement, but as people get older, happiness is associated with feeling peaceful. Young people get more happiness from spending time with interesting new acquaintances, while older people get more enjoyment from spending time with close friends and family.

Facebook Weird and Funny Pics

My weird collection of photos from facebook friends tag (Part - 1). You'll just have to watch out for part two, theree and so on. Enjoi

Megan Fox opens her childhood Photo

She has been compared to Angelina Jolie and Ava Gardner.

But Transformers actress Megan Fox believes she looked more like Boardwalk Empire star Steve Buscemi as a child.

The 25-year-old posted the hilarious claim alongside two photographs of her as a baby on her Facebook page yesterday.

In one, the adorable toddler sits on an arm chair wearing a shirt with a teddy bear on the front.

Her dark and naturally curly hair is pinned back with a clip.

In the second picture Megan, who looks around two-years-old at the time, wears baby blue dungarees with a frilled white shirt underneath and clutches a baby beaker.

Her now famous pout and bright blue eyes were just as prominent back then as they are now.

But despite her obvious beauty, Megan believes she looked more like the 53-year-old actor.

'I looked like Steve Buscemi,' she entitles the picture album, referring to the Con Air and Reservoir Dogs star.

Megan recently returned to work on her new film Friends With Kids.

The film, which also stars Mad Men actor Jon Hamm, is being shot in New York marking the first time Megan has been separated from her husband Brian Austin Green since they married last year.

Brian is currently starring in Desperate Housewives which films at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.

An Extraordinary new pictures of life in the depths of the Amazon jungle

Now, some of you will be reading this articles on your I phone or Blackberry, I still can't comprehend the fact that this kind of life exists somewhere. Read the article below.

These incredibly detailed photographs offer a unique insight into the lives of one of the world's last uncontacted tribes. Spears aloft, faces daubed with vivid red paint these bewildered villagers stare up at the helicopter high above them. For them, as for those who saw them, it was a remarkable moment as the group live in total isolation in the dense Amazon rainforest along the Brazilian-Peruvian border.

The aerial images were taken by Brazilian authorities, who have been monitoring the group for some time, and - concerned about their welfare - they have handed them to British charity Survival International, and other NGOs, in the hope that they can help protect their territory and preserve their isolated existence.
